Urdu couplets are richly quoted in the daily talks, during lectures and even during discussions. Each couplet is an independent unit of a Poem which is a distilled message or vision full of resonance and romance.There are many non-Hindi or non-Urdu speaking people enchanted by the spoken Urdu couplets in day to day life, literary gatherings and TV programmes, who wished to fully understand its nuances as without understanding the finer nuances they can’t really appreciate the couplets. This book is an attempt to present a collection of famous and simple Urdu couplets or two line shayari in Hindi and Roman in one place for Urdu poetry fans along with the translation in English. This book is a humble attempt to rekindle the heritage of the Urdu Language and bring out the best of its poetry in order to make the glory of this language familiar to the non-Hindi and non-Urdu speaking world.
Vikram Rai was born on 5.8.1954 at Lucknow. He did his Intermediate from Colvin Taluqdar's College, Lucknow. He did his M.Sc. in Geology from Lucknow University in 1975, where he topped. He served the Geological Survey of India in various capacities at Jaipur, Lucknow, Itanagar and Bangalore. He superannuated as a Director in GSI, Bangalore in August 2014. He has visited over 25 countries including UK, France, Austria, Italy, Germany, Holland and USA. Presently, he is a Freelancer with interests in, Shero-Shayri, Geology, Nature Photography and Scientific Reporting. Soumya Rai was born on 14.9.84 at Lucknow. After doing her Intermediate from Spring Dale College, Lucknow she did her B. Tech in Electronic Engineering from Nagpur University. She joined Wipro at Bangalore in 2007. Since 2010, she has lived in the Netherlands. She works at Vattenfall which is a Swedish multinational power company. She spends her time reading, travelling and enjoying a bike ride in the flatlands of the Netherlands.
